Tuscany's raisin-studded "drunken cake" is soaked in Tuscan dessert wine for a truly intoxicating holiday centerpiece.
The singular specialty of Montevarchi's Pasticceria Bonci, this festive holiday cake is, like the ubiquitous Panettone, soft, moist and light-crumbed and studded with fresh raisins. However, the similarities come to a heady halt there; the Bonci brothers soak their Bacchean specialty in a blend of sweet Tuscan passiti (a sweet wine made from partially dried grapes) for an irrestibly strong flavor and aroma.
