The world's first energy bar, from Pasticceria Bonci, in the Medieval town of Montevarchi.
In the the heart of Tuscany, the province of Arezzo (approximately 30 km southeast of Florence), lies the 12th century hamlet of Montevarchi.
Since 1953, the Bonci family's pasticceria, today operated by three brothers, has been a landmark for visitors to this cozy Tuscan community.
Panpepato is the most traditional of Tuscany's beloved panforte, made according to the original, medieval recipe. The Bonci
brothers' is delightfully spicy, made with hazelnuts, almonds, dried fruit and spices. Once shaped, the exotic, dense bread is gilded with dark chocolate and garnished with pink peppercorns.
The Bonci Panpepato is handsomely packaged in a burgundy giftbox, fastened with an attractive gold sash.
